Every Child.
Every Chance.

Greenville First Steps is the county’s leading convener and connector in early childhood development—driving real impact by empowering families, supporting providers, and coordinating systems behind the scenes.
Greenville First Steps works behind the scenes to ensure every child in Greenville County enters school ready to thrive. As both an organization that receives state funding and a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we blend public and private resources to deliver proven, family-centered programs.

Our end goal?

All children enter kindergarten ready to succeed.

What We Do

As early childhood champions, we support families and the systems that serve them—from newborn nurse visits to early literacy and parenting classes. Whether it’s your first child or your fourth, Greenville First Steps offers simple, supportive, and local pathways to help every family succeed.

Our Three Main Focus Areas

Ready Families

Home visiting programs, parenting classes, early literacy, and newborn support.

Ready Educators

Childcare training, coaching, and support to elevate early learning.

Ready Communities

Infrastructure and policy partnerships to build a better early childhood ecosystem.

Impact

Families who received First Steps services are:
%
more likely to score Demonstrating Readiness on the Kindergarten Readiness Assessment
%
less likely to be chronically absent in kindergarten

Watching parents grow and be excited [through Greenville First Steps supported parenting classes] to learn how to care for their children and work on changing the way they were raised has been motivation to continue working with individuals to break their generational trauma and build healthy families.

We just moved, and I am a single mom. I had to do 95% of the moving myself, and most days were very tiring. The book The Little Engine that Could was the book of the month, and when it came in the mail the last day of our move, I just had to laugh. It was my FAVORITE growing up, and it gave me such an encouragement boost to make it through! My daughter now knows she CAN if she puts her mind to it!
